Tiago Dias is a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Computers Engineering (ADEETC) of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL), Lisbon Polytechnic Institute (IPL), in Portugal.
He is also a researcher at Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores - Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID), where he is working with the Signal Processing Systems (SIPS) research group towards a Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering under the supervision of Professor Nuno Roma. His current research work is mainly focused on the investigation, development and implementation of specialized computational architectures for video coding based on the most recent digital video standards, such as the H.264/AVC and HEVC standards. Nevertheless, his research interests include also the investigation and the development of:
- Specialized processing units for acceleration of video coding algorithms, with special emphasis on motion estimation;
- Integration of specialized processing units in homogeneous (multi-core) and heterogeneous (any-core) parallel computational structures;
- Embedded computational systems targeting efficient implementations of dedicated processing algorithms, with focus on video coding systems.
